Ask any child – terror lives in the darkness. Turn out the light, and the bogeyman comes out in full force, fueled by the unknown and the ever-active imagination.
One of the first verses I taught our children was Psalm 56:3 –
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.”
We said it every night. We said it every night to combat fear with TRUTH.
Today, my children are grown, but the darkness still lives. Shadows of evil and destruction cover our world, and it is easy to allow terror to take over. And that is just what the enemy wants.
The enemy calls us to fear, but God calls us to faith.
There is only one way to combat the fear that the enemy is selling. We must fight fear with TRUTH. God is the Source of all TRUTH, and He has given us His word to teach us His TRUTH.
Thumb through Psalms and grasp just a few of the verses that replace fear with faith.
Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Psalm 18:28 For Thou will light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
Psalm 32:7 Thou art my hiding place; Thou shalt preserve me from trouble; Thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.
You can keep thumbing; the TRUTH is there. God is bigger than our trouble. He is bigger than our fear. In the darkness of this world, He is our Light.
So, say His TRUTH every day.
Say it. Sing it. Shout it. Believe it,
and let it live in your heart.
II Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Colossians 1:13 Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son;

Truth to hang onto.

I took my five month old daughter upstairs (MANY years ago) to rock her to sleep and did not turn on the stairwell light. She had never been in real darkness since birth and reached out her hand ahead of us to “feel” what was there, as her eyes opened wide. I began to hum as we sat into the rocker, and the Lord gave me a song for her which I hope to record someday and put on YouTube.
Part of “Mikki’s Song” goes:
“Jesus is Lord of the darkness,
He can see just as if things were bright.
If we cling to His hand in the night time,
He will lead us to the morning light.”
