The dad walked confidently along the rough path, his daughter holding one hand and his small son the other. Rocks littered the roadway and great boulders sometimes blocked their way. Where water seeped from the rocks, the trek became even more treacherous.
The boy stumbled and began to cry. Dad held out his hand to help, his words of encouragement lifting the boy’s heart. “You’ve got this, son. I know the way, and though it is difficult, I can lead you through. Let me brush you off. I am holding you. No worries now. There is nothing to fear; we will make it safely.”
Just as the boy calmed, the daughter tripped on a stone. She wept as she viewed the blood trickling from her knee. Dad, though, held her fast. “Here, let me wipe away the tears, sister. The hurt is only temporary. This path cannot conquer you for I am holding you. Watch, and keep walking.”
And so, the journey continued, one ridge, one step at a time. They travelled through valleys and traversed trails that seemed impassable. They heard the wild animals prowling in the darkness. They felt the weight of the fog that sometimes obscured their vision. They lived through hurts along the way, and their song could be heard as they continued, for always, they walked with their dad and He held them securely until they finally reached their home.
Colossians 2:6As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him: 7 Rooted and bult up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ, 9 For in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 9And you are complete in Him,”
This world wants us to be afraid. They blast out tragedy after tragedy. They attempt to focus attention on everything that is wrong in this world, and they offer the world’s philosophy as the answer. The world points out our weakness, our lack. They want us dependent on them, on their news, on their solutions, on the wisdom of man.
God calls us to walk in Jesus Christ. He calls us to stability in the faith and growth. He establishes a firm foundation in what Christ has done for us. He reminds us that we are complete in Jesus Christ.
Just as the children in the brief story above walked confidently with their dad, believers can walk confidently in Christ. Through the rough places in this life and the hurts that challenge our hearts, our faith holds firmly to Him. Thank God that my life is hid with Christ in God, allowing me to go forward with faith and assurance in His plan for my life.
Walking with God. That is a safe place to be on this journey.
