In this topsy-turvy world, my heart keeps drifting back to the hymns that I learned in my childhood. I catch myself humming songs that I have not heard in years, and they minister to my heart.
A long-time favorite is “Solid Rock”. I have a favorite piano arrangement of this hymn, and it is the song to which I walked down the aisle when my husband and I married.
This song speaks of the unerring faithfulness and security in God. The world may turn and churn, but He is unchanging, solid, faithful, and true. He is the firm foundation for life.
I will stop here and let you enjoy the words for yourself. I hope they stick to your soul and come out in a hum today.
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale my anchor holds within the veil. His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul give way, He then is all my hope and stay. When He shall come with trumpet sound, oh, may I then in Him be found, dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before His throne. On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand. Edward Mote, 1834
II Samuel 22:32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?
Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Psalm 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
