I was about eight years old when I last heard my grandfather, Papa, preach.
I remember him standing behind the pulpit, his voice filled with the authority of the scripture. And I remember the text, Luke 6:46.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
I remember that question reverberating throughout the tiny church, and I remember it reverberating in my heart as I thought of Jesus looking at the people following Him and asking it.
I never read that scripture without thinking of my grandfather.
Today, it is still a good question to ask.
It is a good question with which to check my heart.
Ephesians 6: 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
Psalm 139: 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
