Let’s Talk About Jesus

 Let’s talk about Jesus,
the King of Kings is He,
the Lord of Lords supreme,
throughout eternity.
The great I AM, the Way,
the Truth, the Life, the Door –
Let’s talk about Jesus
more and more.
by Herbert Buffum, Jr.

I thought about the words of this old chorus today as I read the account of Peter and John healing the lame man in Acts, chapter three.

Peter and John went to the Temple to pray at the hour of prayer, which was around 9:00 in the morning. When they approached the Temple, a lame man asked them for an offering. He spent his days at the Temple begging to provide for his physical needs.

Peter spoke to him: Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk (Acts 3:6).

Then Peter took the man by the hand and lifted him up. The man began leaping and walking and praising God. His needs had been met in a way that far exceeded his expectation.

Others saw the man leaping and walking, and the Bible says that “they were filled with wonder and amazement(Acts 3:10).

The people ran together around Peter and John, but Peter did not spend much time talking about the miracle. He immediately began to tell the people about Jesus Christ and their need for repentance.

Peter preached Jesus. This is a common theme in the Book of Acts.

I talk about a lot of things, but I need to spend more time talking about Jesus.

When the conversation circles around the nation’s problems – talk about Jesus the Savior (II Timothy 1:10).

When confronted with the darkness in this world – talk about Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12).

When rejoicing in the good things that abound – praise the name of Jesus, Who is the Giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17).

When faced with sorrows – talk about Jesus, the Healer of broken hearts (Luke 4:18).

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  (Acts 4:12)

His name must never be far from my heart and my lips.

When I talk about Jesus, others may think that I am out of touch with current happenings, but people do not need my opinions – they need Jesus.

Lord, help me talk about Jesus more and more.
