I Choose Joy

Today, I choose joy!

I will smile at the sunrise and watch the soaring hawk with gladness.

I will laugh at the ice cubes that spill from my hand when I am trying to fill my glass.

I will hug the sticky toddler without reservation.

I will stop and pet the dog.

I will thank God for life and feeling while I rub the aching parts of my body.

I will hug my husband and stop cleaning to enjoy his story.

I will count my blessings.

I will take the boat ride.

I will step in the kiddie pool and relish the coolness on my feet.

I will smell the flowers even as the perspiration rolls down my back.

I will turn off the news.

I will laugh out loud at the silly antics of the chickens jogging across the yard.

I will dance with the grandchildren and have a parade in the living room.

I will walk outside and breathe in the beauty of twilight.

I will stand amazed in wonder of my Creator’s work as I view the nighttime sky.

I will praise God for life, and breath, and grace, and today.

Today, I have a choice and

I choose joy!

Psalm 5:11
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

When I scheduled this for today, I had no idea of the devastation that Louisiana would be experiencing. Still, joy is the only antidote for despair. We are praying for all.
