Before I awoke this morning, a jet flew over my house. I know this because the early morning rays of sunlight spotlighted the remnant of the vapor trail it left.
I missed the noise of its going.
I did not see it moving across the dawning sky.
I saw the aftermath of its journey – its wake.
The wake of that jet brightened my morning by giving the sunrise a place for reflection. The light shown through the remnants of the journey and diffused into color.
I was blessed by the beauty, and I wondered
what kind of wake am I leaving?
Hebrew 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
