Eternity’s View

 If I could see today from eternity's view,
the sorrows would seem lighter,
the joys would be brighter,
and the burdens that I carry would not chafe.

If I could see today from eternity's view,
my heart would reach to lift,
my hands would seek to serve;
I would know that love alone survives.

If I could see today from eternity's view,
my needs and wants,
my aspirations and desires
would all dim in the light
of the glory of God.

Father,
Help me catch a glimpse of You today.
Let me view this world through Your eyes.

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

“I am progressing along the path of life in my ordinary contentedly fallen and godless condition, absorbed in a merry meeting with my friends for the morrow or a bit of work that tickles my vanity today, a holiday or a new book, when suddenly a stab of abdominal pain that threatens serious disease, or a headline in the newspapers that threatens us all with destruction, sends this whole pack of cards tumbling down. At first I am overwhelmed, and all my little happinesses look like broken toys. Then, slowly and reluctantly, bit by bit, I try to bring myself into the frame of mind that I should be in at all times. I remind myself that all these toys were never intended to possess my heart, that my true good is in another world, and my only real treasure is Christ. And perhaps, by God’s grace, I succeed, and for a day or two become a creature consciously dependent on God and drawing its strength from the right sources.”

    Thanks for this timely reminder, and thank you for the C.S. Lewis quote. He is one of my favorite authors because he managed to express abstract ideas in a way easier for me to understand.
