Five Smooth Stones

Thy throne is established of old: Thou art from everlasting.” Psalm 94:2

Lord,

I do not really understand that word everlasting. I accept by faith that You have always been, and You always will be, but Your eternalness is beyond my comprehension.

I am stuck in the now. I know the date of my birth, though I don’t remember that day. I know death will come, but I do not know when.

And here I am today, standing on this pinprick of eternity, wondering.

I wonder at Your majesty and strength. I wonder at Your holiness. I wonder at Your creation, and my heart is drawn by a silent voice telling me this is not my home.

This world is flooded with evil, and its shouts and rampages seem to shake the very earth. You, though, have said “the world also is established, that it cannot be moved” (Psalm 94:1).

This flood is rising and crashing into my now, but You are “mightier than the noise of many waters, yes, that the mighty waves of the sea” (Psalm 94:4).

Sometimes I feel like David facing the giant, Goliath. The situation seems hopeless as the Goliath of evil accuses and attacks.

You called David to stand, and You have called me to stand as well (Ephesians 6:13).

When David went out to confront Goliath, he picked up five smooth stones to use against the giant. I think about what You have given me in the battle that I face.

When I face my giants, I pick up

  • The Word of God
  • Prayer
  • Obedience
  • Love for God
  • Love for Others

These are the five smooth stones which I have . As I stand in your strength, may I wield them wisely and well to counteract and neutralize the voice of the enemy, remembering that all I do and all I am is for Your glory.

I Peter 2: 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
