You know what faith looks like?
It doesn’t look like a beautiful cathedral or a life without care. No, faith stands battered and bruised by the trials of this life and, with tears streaming, proclaims
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Psalm 62:7
I want to put an exclamation point at the end of that verse, because in my heart I can hear David’s triumph in the realization that his life is wrapped in the absolute security of who God is.
Psalm 62 is a cry of victory as David urges the people to trust God – ONLY God. Psalm 62:8
The moment that my hope and expectation move from God to fixate on anything or anyone in this temporary world is the moment that I set myself up to be crushed and discouraged by disappointment.
No human institution, or emotion, or relationship, or possession, or paycheck, or ambition, or accomplishment has the power to redeem and sustain me.
Only God.
Only God!
That is why God calls for and deserves my total commitment. That is why I can trust Him to order my steps rightly. That is why I can rest in Him.
Today, I am checking my heart.
- Where do my loyalties lie?
- Where am I looking for peace?
- What am I depending on to get me through?
- What am I allowing to discourage me?
Because I want to say, like David
“He ONLY is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense: I shall not be moved.” Psalm 62:6
And I want to say it with an exclamation point at the end!
