Always on His Mind

I love to receive notes! “Just thinking of you” notes. “How are you doing” notes. Handwritten and stamped, they delight me. Emails and texts are good, but there is something special about finding a surprise card in the mailbox.

God sent me a ‘thinking of you’ note in Psalm 40. Twice in this chapter, He reminds me that I am always on His mind.

Psalm 40: Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

God thinks about me – all the time!

The day may be long, and I may feel lost or lonely, but I can take heart that I am not forgotten.

Several years ago, while doing some work in Kentucky, I found myself traveling through back hills on roads almost smaller than the rental car I was driving.  I didn’t know the area, and directions are not my strong suit.  The GPS on my phone directed me through spectacular scenery over two-rut roads and backroad highways.  It told me to turn where there were no signs, and it talked me over steep inclines and into deep ravines. This was amazing, because I did not have enough cell service to make a call or send a text.  I just kept driving.  My thought as I cruised through the afternoon was, “No one but God knows where I am – including me.” I wasn’t lonely; I was comforted by the reality of God’s presence and His care for me.  I believe He is the one who kept the GPS working until I made my way through the mountains.

This life is sometimes like that maze of mountains. My path is obscured, even though I know my destination.  The journey is long and often arduous.

I take great comfort in knowing that I am on God’s mind, every minute of every day.  He is as close as my sigh, and He is able to order my steps in the right path. He is not surprised by the curves in the road, nor is He confused by my lack of direction. I am never out of His care or out of His presence.

God thinks about me.  He told me so in Psalm 40, and I know it is true.

Take heart today, because you are on God’s mind.

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Psalm 34:The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
