Anyone who has ever received a difficult diagnosis
or known the heartbreak of watching a loved one die
knows the agony of waiting.
We wait for the results of the next test.
We wait for the next treatment.
We wait through symptoms,
and reactions,
and pain.
We wait for a funeral,
signaling our final severance on this Earth.
We wait –
unable to formulate plans or complete actions.
We wait, simply surviving each moment –
for even though we have heard of the resurrection,
our hearts are still enmeshed in the suffering of the cross.
This was the Saturday before Easter for Mary,
for John,
for Peter,
and it is the reality of life.
But,
the reality does not lessen the absolute certainty!
and joy!
and power!
of the resurrection!
For faith says,
“We can not see it now, but we will!”
Romans 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalm 30:4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
I’m thankful the “reality does not lessen the absolute certainty”! I’m thankful reality isn’t all there is!
