Down through the eons darkness flies
Carried by Adam’s fatal fall,
Fueling the struggles that haunt mankind,
Trying to drown the Savior’s call.
How deeply the darts of darkness pierce.
How bitter the wounds that scar the soul.
Is there a balm to heal the sores?
Is there a salve that can make us whole?
Suffering the brutal pains of death,
Christ bore our blackness as His own;
briefly the darkness seemed to win
when He hung defeated and alone.
But darkness cannot quench the Light
nor snuff the candle’s flickering flare;
Death did not have the final say
on Messiah, bruised and bare.
He arose and conquered Satan’s plan -
Threw off the chains of darkest night,
Took back what Satan thought he had
And banished darkness with His light.
Sometimes the darkness seems to win,
squelching the light of hurting souls
But always Christ’s great Light breaks through,
Shattering darkness, making whole.

Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
