Read Mark 11.
Mark 11:17 And He taught saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
I Corinthians 6:19 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own.
When Jesus walks through my heart and surveys the contents, I wonder if He wants to just overturn all the desires and chase out the intents like He did the money changers in the Jerusalem temple.
When He walked there in the temple, He was dismayed by the deceit and enraged at the cheating and dishonesty. But He was also brokenhearted as He reminded them of the true purpose of His house – worship.
My heart is His home.
I worry and hustle and work at keeping my earthly house free of dirt and clutter, but am I careful about His home – my heart? Does it harbor the thieves of doubt and deceit? Is it so cluttered with the baubles and attitudes of this world that devotion to my Lord is crowded out? Is my heart full of the world or full of worship?
Jesus did some housecleaning when He walked through the Jerusalem temple. Today is a good day to let Him do some housecleaning in my heart.
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
