Isaiah 28: 16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation:
Matthew 21:42 – Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
Ephesians 2:20 – And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
I Peter 2:6 – Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.
What is the meaning of ‘corner stone’? Historically, the corner stone was the first stone set in a masonry building, with all other stones in the foundation being laid in reference to this first stone. Therefore, the corner stone was critical and the determining factor in the stability of the building.
God has established His way in the Christ. This foundation is tried and sure, a precious corner stone, and those who build their lives on Him are wise.
Ever wandering, longing, searching,
Over years of history known –
Man has ventured, never conquering,
Through the weeds the curse has sown.
In his wisdom, man has sought to
Find the path of light and peace,
While rejecting all God offers
That can bring the soul relief.
On the Corner Stone of Jesus,
Man has fallen, bruised and torn,
Yet he still refused the healing
From this One mankind has scorned.
Tried by fire and persecution,
Still this Stone secure remains.
On this Corner Stone so precious,
Our foundation sure will stand.
